Now colored! I'm not really happy with it, though. Suggestions are welcome.

Pteranodon is awesome, of course. I haven't illustrated it seriously before, but it's oddly fun to draw. I'm going to do more pterosaurs, I think.

Edit: Fixed the chest.

This looks amazing! The chest is a bit shallow, as previously mentioned, and it could use a bit more color, but this is great!

I decided to try something a little bit more restrained, just as an alternative to the more gaudy pterosaur reconstructions out there. I was going for a somewhat more Marc Witton look, if you will.

I may go in and brighten up the crest, though.

I can sympathize with your reservations regarding flashy hues on the larger archosaurs. Most big ground birds sport a strategic splash or two of display colors at best, after all. Digging the subtle gradient between this guy's neck-fuzz & crest/face.

The only thing I could suggest is a more brilliantly colored beak, and a more keel-like chest. Amazing work though!

Thanks! :) I'm gonna keep messing with it.

Ok, if you want suggestions you will get some (even if I like it now too) =)
coloring: I like the body but the wings are a bit too iconic for me; small white spots on the membrane which also skip onto the back, or chest.

drawing: anatomical I would criticize the chest, this graphic shows what I mean: [link]

I actually tried to get the chest keeled sufficiently, but I rejected my first version as looking ridiculous. ;) It just goes to show how strange even familiar animals are. I was asked to include the stripy wings, since my initial coloring decision was closer to "fruitbat" then anything else and my client didn't like it. C'est la vie.
