Description

Serok T'tunda, protagonist and central character of Ashes and other stories.

He currently resides on a backwater planet where unexplained temporal anomolies have populated the surface with people and creatures from many ages in earth's prehistory. His arrival there was not voluntarily; his craft's engines were destroyed in a pitched battle over the planet and he was pulled into the gravity well. He survived the crash, but he woke up to find his ship smashed beyond hope of repair and that he had little hope of escape. Serok regards his situation with a kind of annoyed pragmatism; he doesn't much like being stuck, but the many people he meets and the things he encounters keep him occupied. He's here, probably for good, and he's making the best of it.

His real name is Serok Ben Rashi, but he adopted the title of ki T'tunda a year after planet fall, under unknown circumstances. The title seems to be reserved primarily for those who show themselves to be extraordinary warriors, and a ki T'tunda is assumed to be capable of things ordinary men are not. A former marine of the Interplanetary Peacekeeping Initiative (est. 3443 c.e) Serok is indeed a well trained and very dangerous man.

He appears to be in his late twenties, though he is in fact ten years older. Its a result of a medical infusion of nanobots that give him an accelerated healing rate and increased immune system, and aid his ability to shrug off most things his surroundings can throw at him (eventually.)

Notes:

(1) The Bladestaff is a weapon Serok acquired a few months after planet fall. After a battle with a bandit chieftain, he took the blade off of the man's body and attached it to a long piece of hard wood. Should the wood break, the blade can be tied to another staff; the head is attached to a handle of theropod bone, and it can be used as a machete when not attached to the staff. Serok has trained himself in its use, and it's his signature weapon.

(2) (4) and (5) Serok's IPI Marine armor was badly damaged in the crash, but he's managed to salvage enough to cover his left leg and right arm, as well as the chest plate, boots, and the right gauntlet. The armor is incredibly tough and light, and he prefers it to the heavier armor available on planet.

(3) Serok's Service Pistol (known to the villagers and bandits of the jungle as the Thundergun) is one of the few pieces that survived the crash, and is the most powerful small weapon on the planet, powered through solar cells and capable shooting through a sauropod. Serok prefers to use it as a weapon of last resort; if it breaks, he's not getting a spare.

(6) The vest: even he doesn't recall where exactly he got it, but it's one of his most recognized pieces of clothing.
